The Pantanal cat, Leopardus colocolo braccatus, has been reported for grasslands and subtropical humid forests in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina. Here we report a dead Pantanal cat in the Moxos savannahs of the Beni Department of Bolivia, representing the first record of this taxon for Bolivia. This record, in combination with a reassessment of two previous records of L. colocolo in the lowlands of Bolivia, extends the distribution range of this subspecies ca.1000 km WNW from the nearest known locality in Brazil. |

ABSTRACT The need for crop rotation and profitability in lowland areas are the two main reasons for the introduction of soybean cultivation in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. These areas have poor natural drainage, which impedes proper soybean growth. In this sense, this study aimed to assess the efficiency of using broad base ridges in comparison to the surface drainage for soybean cultivation in lowlands. The study was conducted during the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 growing seasons in São João do Polêsine, RS, Brazil. The assessed drainage methods were the use of broad base ridges with different width dimensions (22.5, 15.0, and 7.5 m) and surface drainage. The results showed that the shoot dry matter and leaf area index have similar behavior. The... |

Computerized tomography (CT) is an important tool in Soil Science for noninvasive measurement of density and water content of soil samples. This work aims to describe the aspects of sample size adequacy for Planosol (Albaqualf) and to evaluate procedures for statistical analysis, using a CT scanner with a 241Am source. Density errors attributed to the equipment are 0.051 and 0.046 Mg m-3 for horizons A and B, respectively. The theoretical value for sample thickness for the Planosol, using this equipment, is 4.0 cm for the horizons A and B. The ideal thickness of samples is approximately 6.0 cm, being smaller for samples of the horizon B in relation to A. Alternatives for the improvement of the efficiency analysis and the reliability of the results obtained... |
